A part of our lives and the various aspects that surround everything in this world is well documented in history. The history of education provides information on the most notable moments where major changes took place thus making a significant contribution to the learning process. One thing is evident through history; the purpose of education is to equip an individual with knowledge for future survival. Here are some of those moments:

Cultural practices across the world used to and still support education even without their knowledge. For example, a medicine man would pass this knowledge to their children through informal education. The medicine man would give instructions to the child regarding various plants and medicinal elements.
Similarly, young girls would obtain education from their mothers and female relatives. Informal sessions and even competitions were held giving the young girls opportunities to prepare for the future.
Civilized education began in the early 15th century in Greece, Asia, and Egypt where there were printing and the interest in learning complex things. Technology allowed education to grow because it was possible to publish text books, journals, and other reading materials. The computer made it easy for people to research the fields of education. Additionally, scholars were in a better position to perform complex calculations.

Research and innovation are part of the history of education because they give schools and the process of learning techniques of achieving various developmental goals. With these in mind, education has a purpose in society; to solve the issues facing the community through innovation of more effective ways of meeting various objectives.
